I am bringing “Questions By Bill” to a close. Chris Matthews from Hardball never asked me to be on his show and that was the ultimate goal, of course. Thanks for taking the time to read my thoughts.
Will This Be My Last Blog?
August 5th, 2010Should a Mosque be at Ground Zero?
August 4th, 2010As a private property advocate, I say the owners can put what ever they want on that site, as long as it submits to zoning laws. I also love the freedom of religion regardless of which God you believe in. There should never be discrimination based on religious beliefs.
If common sense is applied, however, this is the dumbest idea of the week. This is like a murderer’s family moving next door to the victim’s family. It is insensitive and political correctness run amuk. I could not believe the statement from Mayor Bloomberg that somehow this is going to help us with the terrorists. He thinks this makes some kind of positive statement to the world.
I do think some statements should be made. A statement coming from the Mayor or city council is meaningless. There are some statements that could be made, but they would all come from the Muslem community that will be using this facility. I would like to hear these statements:
Statement One: We are citizens of the United States and support the freedoms espoused by this country and will fight any agressor trying to destroy those freedoms.
Statement Two: We abhor the events of 9/11. We fully reject the teaching and violence of Al Quaeda and all other Islamic extremist groups. None of those teachings will be tolerated in this building.
Statement Three: We will gladly submit any evidence to the authorities, that show these facilities as being used to recruit people to terrorist causes.
Statement Four: We love America and desire to use these facilities to make our community and the world a better place through the peaceful teachings of the Koran.
If I heard these statements I would feel better. One of the issues for me is not hearing the condemnation of Muslim extremists from other Muslims.
Is Obama a Muslem Extremist?
July 30th, 2010It makes me sad to hear a few of my conservative friends make their crazy claims about Obama. Whether it is questioning his birth or his religion, it is all wrong or simply unfair. They might as well believe Charles Manson really is Jesus.
Here is what I have noticed about Muslim extremists – they hang out with each other, attend mosques, hate America, and adhere to a lifestyle based on the Koran. Obama is guilty of joining and attendingĀ a Christian church for over 20 years, hung out with 60′s radicals, and belonged to liberal organizations. Does evidence even matter to the people making these accusations?
Why can’t we just disagree with Obama’s philosophy without trying to destroy the man and his family? He believes that the government is the best solution to social problems. So the government is getting bigger by the minute. He thinks professors make the best decision makers. So there is not much common sense being used to handle the nations problems. He is not a big believer in capitalism, but he does take a lot of nice vacations. The bottom line – not exactly the philosophy or lifestyle of Bin Laden.
Get a grip people. Stop attacking the man’s character and began offering common sense solutions to our problems. And by the way, help the economy by working harder and spending more.
Why is Race the Most Important Issue?
July 26th, 2010Millions are out of work, the country is trillions in debt, Afghanistan is worsening, and the future looks bleak. The good news is that America elected it’s first black president and the race issue is now on the back burner, right?
Only in politics and the press is racism the supreme issue of the land. I am really getting sick of it. I am not saying that there is not a problem with race, there is, and always will be as long as people are different. Race has now become the lens that every issue is viewed through.
If one disagrees with Obama it is because of race. If an illegal immigrant is arrested it is because of race. The NAACP declared officially a couple of weeks ago that the Tea Party was racist. If this trend continues our country will never return to it’s greatness.
We need to change the tone and direction of the race discussion. I have a suggestion on where to start. Take race out of the census. The only question asked about the people living in a household was what color they were.
A final suggestion for everyone is to grow a spine. If the worst thing that happens is someone calls you a derogatory name, then life is really pretty good. It wasn’t that many generations ago that there were lynchings and slavery. This is no longer happening. Progress is being made toward reducing race discrimination with education and toleration continuing.
The most racist thing that can be done today is this – point your finger at another person or group and call them racist.
Want a Great Idea on How to Reform Government?
July 21st, 2010The only people who have been given the task of reforming government are politicians and government employees. Employees are going to protect turf and politicians are going to protect votes, so, there will never be any reduction in government bloat. There may be a solution – citizen task forces throughout the country. Read the rest of this entry »
Will Obama Be Re-Elected?
July 9th, 2010I like Obama personally, but I have never been a fan of his politics. I did not vote for him in 2008 and I will not vote for him in 2012. My son made the comment the other day that there is no way he can be elected again. I told him he was wrong. Here’s why. Read the rest of this entry »
What Do Immigration and Small Business Issues Tell Us about Obama?
July 3rd, 2010Politics has become dreadful. It is a necessary evil. It is more important than ever that citizens stay tuned in and do what they can to change this sick political environment. The issues of illegal immigration and small business are important for our economy, they say a ton about our president, and illustrate our current political situation. Read the rest of this entry »
What Does Financial Reform Mean to Us?
June 30th, 2010The free market is the best way to hold businesses accountable. Healthy competition will force companies to make wise decisions, limit high risk deals, and protect their customers. The Financial Reform Bill squashes the free market and will give the government even more power to control Wall Street and ultimately main street. Read the rest of this entry »
Should More Women Be in Politics?
June 27th, 2010I’m not just any man. I was raised on a farm in Tennessee with all brothers. The men did the outside work and my poor mother did all the cooking, washing, and all other inside work. She never lifted a single bale of hay and I never washed a single plate. I am a conservative and feminists would hate me if they knew me. With that said, I believe we need more women in politics and leadership. Read the rest of this entry »
Can America Ever Win Another War?
June 23rd, 2010Did America win the war in Iraq? Was it even a war since congress never declared a war with Iraq? I give us a win on that one but I don’t know that we will ever win one again. And I include Afghanistan in that comment. Our military is the most powerful force in history, but the new rules of engagement have made it incapable of winning a war. Read the rest of this entry »
