Should We Fire Fannie and Freddie?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Obama wants to tax the banks that received taxpayer dollars, even if they’ve paid it back. This plan is cheered by many as the latest round of bonuses are handed out to the bank executives. Why is it that no one complains about the taxpayer dollars wasted on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and the bonuses given to those executives. Actually, why don’t we just get rid of Fannie and Freddie? By the way, Fannie Mae is not a candy store. (more…)

If the government can’t handle the Swine Flu vaccination how will they manage healthcare?

Friday, October 23rd, 2009

I don’t know who to fire for my Friday Firing. It appears the vaccination program to save the country from the H1N1 virus has been an utter failure by the government. They created the hysteria and now can’t deliver. I can tell you this, more people will die from Swine Flu than the number of government employees who will be held accountable for this debacle. This is the main reason I oppose government controlled healthcare.

What grade does the Department of Education get?

Friday, October 16th, 2009

In his first State of the Union address in 1982 Ronald Reagan said, “The budget plan I submit to you on Feb. 8 will realize major savings by dismantling the Department of Education.” Under George W Bush the Department of Education’s (DOE) budget more than doubled. One can question the constitutional authority of the federal government to control what is happening in your kid’s kindergarten class. For me, it is just another example of out of control spending with no accountability. Pull the plug, the department gets an F. (more…)

How wise are farm subsidies?

Friday, October 9th, 2009

Every January I get a check from the government for $500. I get it for not raising tobacco on my farm in Tennessee. I haven’t  farmed in over 30 years. Understanding the horrible consequences of tobacco, I think I deserve at least $5,000 per year for not growing it. (more…)

Will we ever ax this tax system?

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

The current tax system has to go. It is unfair and too complicated. Every time there is a “tax reform” bill the whole things gets even more complex and cruel. Can you imagine what it would be like to get a monthly bill each from the federal, state, county, and city governments to pay for all services? Based on the 2010 federal budget every United States Citizen would get a bill for just under $1000 per month. This would not include the state and local government bills. (more…)

Is the United Nations worth funding?

Friday, September 25th, 2009

The United States provides 22% of the UN budget and a safe place to meet. Other than being a forum for crazies, is there any redeeming value? It has been in business for over 50 years and it is time to pull the plug. The UN is the Friday Firing! (more…)

Should we abolish the Homeland Security Department?

Friday, September 18th, 2009

Yes! After 9/11 I was shocked that 11 days after that horrific event the best our government could come up with in response was a new department. We had 17+ agencies at the time tasked with keeping intelligence on our enemies and protecting American citizens. They failed us and the best we could do was create another bureaucracy? 8 years have passed and it is time to evaluate. (more…)

Friday Firing- Van Jones, wait, isn’t he already gone?

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Van Jones was the Special Adviser for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ). He resigned under pressure from the “right-wing attack machine” led by Glenn Beck of Fox News. He is gone because of extremist views. I see him simply as a typical Obama worker – lawyer from the Ivy League (Yale). I want to know, can we get rid of the CEQ? (more…)

Friday Firing – Is the Civil Defense System necessary?

Friday, September 4th, 2009

On Thursday at 10am the Civil Defense siren goes off in my hometown as a test. We often joke that a real attack at that exact time would be perfect since no one would take note. On 9/11 I was with my 80 year old mother in downtown Chicago. There were reports that the next plane was going to hit the Sears Tower. I knew what was going on since I had the Internet on my cell phone. We boarded a commuter train to leave town, witnessed thousands of faces filled with fear, and heard no siren. (more…)

Friday Firing -Is it time to C-A-N the C-I-A?

Friday, August 28th, 2009

CIA logoThe CIA should be abolished. Don’t think I’m a liberal pansy, I’m glad we took out Saddam and I wish we had ended the Iranian threat with military action. The job of the CIA is gathering intelligence to protect Americans. They failed us on 9/11 and reported that Iraq was a threat to us with weapons of mass destruction (“slam dunk”). It is a bureaucratic debacle. (more…)
