Why are We Debating Abortion Again?

Friday, October 26th, 2012

I can’t pretend to understand the feelings of a woman when she wants to abort her baby. I don’t know the pain of rape or incest. I do try to understand the socio-economic challenges for a single mother. It doesn’t seem right that the issue of abortion should be in the hands of politicians. The emotions on both sides of the issue are deep and real. I despise the press for stirring up the feelings regarding this issue, not to help women, but to get democrats elected.

I am pro-life myself. I believe the blob in the womb is a human child. A man can spill his sperm wherever and it doesn’t mean anything. A woman can ovulate and her egg can bounce around and it is meaningless. But when the sperm impregnates the egg something magical takes place. It is not just another fetus like an animal. It is a human with the very image of God inside it. I don’t fully know what that means but it gives incredible value to the life. I believe it should be given a chance.

Of all the things I can’t understand from a female perspective, the one that is most confusing is this; A woman by nature is the most loving andĀ nurturingĀ of all creatures. How can she choose not to love the child living in her womb?
