Are Guns the Issue in Chicago Gang Violence?

Tuesday, September 24th, 2013

I guess you heard this week that Chicago is now the murder capital of the United States. Woo hoo! And as kids get killed day after day in this city we hear the politicians continue to say that “guns are the problem”. Now bear with me, I am a little angry over this. I am sick of this argument. Let me tell you why.

You can download a map of Chicago that will color code neighborhood by neighborhood or block by block to show you which gang is in charge of which territory or neighborhood. Really? The issue there is not guns.

When I read about a five year old boy that is in a park infested with gang members at midnight or 1 am and they happen to get shot, the issue of a five year old kid in a park at midnight is not guns.

When I hear that to be initiated into a gang you have to kill an innocent person, the issue there is not guns.

And even bigger still, when you want to limit guns or take away guns the only people you are taking them away from is people like me. I am a tax paying, law-abiding, gun owning citizen, innocent, only want to protect myself, and have some fun. But you take it away from me. Well I want to say something else, the issue of the gang violence in Chicago is not me! Or any other law abiding citizen.

And lastly, when just about every single one of those murders is confined to one racial group, that issue is not guns. Hey, just thought of another one. When a group of people are involved in illegal drug trafficking at a huge level where millions of dollars are being transferred illegally, the issue of all of that is not guns.

When, please tell me when, our politicians will wake up and start dealing with the real issues. And for goodness sakes stay away from the Bill of Rights.

Should Granny Have A Gun?

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

My favorite show as a kid was “The Beverly Hillbillies”. I identified with Jethro because I too was a “poor mountaineer” and could never get enough to eat. In the rural community of my childhood everyone had guns and there was no gun control issue. I now live near Chicago where guns are illegal. The Supreme Court may change that soon. (more…)
